Ilm al-Hal is a handbook of every Muslim individual and family. It consists of issues common to all believers without exception and information about their responsibilities that begin as soon as they reach puberty. These can be summarized as the lawful and the prohibited that are encountered in Islamic creed, acts of worship and daily life. We can call all these “priority information”. Because a person whose standards of faith are wrong and does not know how to serve Allah cannot be expected to observe Islamic standards in other areas of life. The "Basic Islamic Principles (ʿIlmi Ḥāl) According to Four Sunni Schools" aims to provide the criteria by highlighting their basis in the Qur'an and Sunnah. Its purpose is to confront the Muslims with the Owner of Ruling, thus reminding the divine dimension of their responsibility. The process of acquiring Islamic knowledge, which starts with learning the principles of creed, acts of worship and daily life found in this book and then and living in accordance with that knowledge, will lead the person to adopt Islam as a whole life system. Because Islam, in fact, encompasses the whole life.

Muhammad Bahauddin Shah-i Naqshiband (May Allah sanctify his secret) was a great friend of Allah, who inherited the light of guidance from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), through luminous hearts in a golden chain. His connection to Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is not only spiritual but also genealogical, since he was also a descendent coming from the pure lineage of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
As you know, we have begun to present to you our writings about the friends of Allah published in Altinoluk, in which we tried to annotate and explain their wise words, in a series comprising a separate booklet for each friend of Allah. This humble work, in which we compiled our writings about Shah-i Naqshiband, is a continuation of that series.
Moreover, in this booklet we deemed it necessary to include issues such as the nature of Sufism, the principles of the Khwajagan path, and the need for friends of Allah and Sufi masters. We have excerpted the sections on these issues from our previous work entitled the Golden Chain.
The teaching of the memorization of the Koran (Hafiz) occupies an important place in the Muslim education. This education may differ from country to country and even from continent to continent. The program you have in hand, prepared on the basis of the Hafiz method of education, is widely used in Turkey. This method is based on the principle of concluding the total reading of the Quran by memorizing each Juz starting from the end and then reinforcing the previous memorizations by repeating them in the following readings, with an average interval of 25-35 days. With this method, the student can, according to his abilities, complete his memorization in the shortest possible time and in the most solid way. Although experts have different opinions on the methods, there is a consensus that the ideal age to learn how to become Hafiz is early childhood. In this system, which is considered together with the school, the most favourable period is that of pupils aged 11 to 15 years. (Those who have completed primary school 4-5). The Hafiz roadmap consists of 8 successive stages. The lessons and contents of each stage of the roadmap have been placed, taking into account the process of education of the hafiz with the school, in the program in the form of a "general table of distribution of lessons according to the stages ".

The biggest fortune that we have in this world is faith. Our biggest goal is to live with faith and go back to our Lord with faith. The love of God, the greatest of all loves, and believing Him is the essence of our religion. Faith also begins in the heart and reflects upon our behaviors. The love of God in our hearths leads us to become nice humans and obey God s commands and prohibitions. In turn, our good deeds and worshipping enhance the love and faith in us. The faith march that has started with our Prophet (p.b.u.h.) has been continuing for generations. Each generation did their best to practice and pass on this religion to the next generation. Thus, Islamic knowledge has passed from hand to hand, from mouth to mouth, and from heart to heart and reached us.
